Restbus Simulation: Synthesizing Full Vehicle Communication Networks for Isolated ECU Testing
Generating all surrounding vehicle network traffic to simulate absent ECUs, ensuring that the Device Under Test (DUT) receives valid cyclic messages.
When testing an isolated Electronic Stability Control (ESC) ECU, the vehicle's Engine Control Module (ECM), Transmission Control Module (TCM), and Body Gateway are not physically present.
Restbus simulation engines ingest the vehicle's network communication databases (DBC, ARXML, FIBEX). The simulator transmits all required cyclic and event-triggered frames across CAN-FD, LIN, and Automotive Ethernet. By dynamically altering signals within the restbus simulation (e.g., simulating engine RPM surges or sudden gear shifts), validation engineers verify how the DUT responds to diverse system conditions.
